Dear Met Sacramento Families,

The highlight reel of this year is long; there have been many successes, much to celebrate and many reasons to give thanks. On Thursday June 12th, the class of 2008 will mark the second graduating class at the Met Sacramento. Once again, every senior has been accepted to college! This last round of exhibitions has been superb, and if I haven’t had the chance to personally thank you for your commitment and support, then let me take this opportunity to thank you now.

Just as we ask students to reflect at each exhibition, the staff at the Met Sacramento also listens carefully to feedback from students, parents, mentors, and community members. Each year we seek to build on our success, and improve in areas that have been challenging. Two of the greatest challenges for our students have been completing the California A through G curriculum requirements, and completing adequate preparatory coursework to lay a foundation for success in the Sacramento City College classes available through the Panther Pipeline program.

Therefore, when we begin the 2008-09 school year, we will do so with a few significant changes. After carefully examining our practices, we have concluded that it is necessary to incorporate workshop sessions into the curriculum. These additional offerings will allow students to develop bonds with more advisors, as well as enable advisors to focus on the subject area(s) in which they have expertise. While we have already successfully implemented a Math curriculum during the 2007-2008 school year, we plan next year to also offer Spanish, Art, Social Studies, Physical and Life Sciences. While these “classes” may look somewhat more traditional, the core of the Met Sacramento will never change. Students’ close relationships with their advisors are of supreme importance and students will continue to be with their advisors roughly 2 ½ hours every Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

As always, our school strives to be an innovative and dynamic place that meets the needs of all community members; we welcome your continued input and feedback. Please do not hesitate to contact me and/or your student’s advisor with any questions, concerns, or suggestions.

See you September 2nd!
