Parent's Corner
From our principal, Allen Young: The Met takes pride in it's strong parent involvement. As the child's primary educators, we understand how integral the family is to the educational process. Parents are members of the learning plan team (along with the student and advisor), and help design their child's curriculum. As panelists at a students's quarterly exhibtion, parents are also involved in asessing their child's work.
We invite you to become more involved at the Met, whether it's contributing to our college scholarship fund or sharing your time and talents. Consider leading a Pick Me Up (a whole school morning meeting), or running a workshop related to your career field or interests. Ask you child's advisor how you can help. We encourage you to visit the Met and to continue to check our website for news and events.
This section of the Met's website is devoted to:
- Parents who are interested in the Met for their student
- Parents who already have a student at the Met
In fact, all conten under the "Parents" heading is under the control of a Met parent team.
Contact Andrew-Frishman@metsacramento.org to be included in the school's email system. Read the calendar on the website on a regular basis, to stay informed of important upcoming dates. Calendar change
The Met wants to be on Sac City College schedule rather than Sac City Unified. Charter says we can start and end whenever we want. August 16 is our start date for next year. Advisory board will vote.
[Need clarification of who is responsible for voting on various issues/budget, etc. (Site, Advisory or both) Robyn will look for future dates for Site Council training and clarification for what a Site Council is responsible.]
Upcoming Student Event – Alex Villagomez
Seetha and Alex have attended a Student Advisory Council meeting for the district. Team building, ice breaking exercises were conducted. Established roles. Some networking was established between high schools.
This Friday, at Luther Burbank, there will be a High School Summit. This is co-chaired by LEED and Erica Gilbertson.
These are opportunities for networking between students and schools.
There will also be a mayoral event at Burbank High School May 19th . It is sponsored by ACT and the Met, which is Seetha Ream Rao’s LTI. It is open to all. Seetha Ram Rao of The Met, is the one responsible for this. The Met is hosting this event.
Carlos Moreno of the Met, Providence, RI will be visiting again. Carlos is the principal of that school and Big Picture mentor for Allen. Two students from Providence will be staying at Met student homes and will attend LTIs 29th and 30th and 31st .
Marianne Gammon, Robyn Cann both offered to house students. Alex will ask his parents if he can host a student.

Estella has started an Arts Enrichment Program on Fridays. We need enough students to attend to make it pay – at least 15 students, but 20 is better. Sac Co is funding, along with SMAC.
There is also a Life Skills group started that is advising students on dress, behavior, etc. – tools for getting along with others in general and at work specifically.
Recruitment and Enrollment Report
It looks as if we’ll be starting at 160 in the fall.
Website
Allan will tell Andrew to set up accounts for Robyn, Carol and Marianne. It is to be done by this weekend.
Part of Andrew’s job will be tracking the website. Oliver Reams, a student, will be helping with the website.
The Calendar on the website is not currently available unless one has a username and password. Needs to be universally available to people. Also, there is currently seems to be nothing on the Calendar.
Student profiles, etc. to come to the website.
Robyn Cota Cann needs to update the Parents Corner with most recent Site Council Minutes.
New Items
College classes were to start April 2 and now are starting April 21. Desks have not arrived. Now, with the later start time, the classes will be in session longer number of minutes per class. 1- 3:40. There is some concern with regard to student fatigue. HCD courses are for freshman and sophomores and are taken with a cohort of other students. Courses taken during junior year – foreign language, electives- fill in what we don’t have on Met campus.
Enrollment at Sac City is done on a case by case basis.
Early classes are taken with one’s cohort and as students progress they will also take classes outside of/in addition to their cohort. Will get an ID card from HCD class. There are 5 HCD classes but they are taken along the way, in amongst the other classes taken at the City College. m.
Graduation is being planned by students for June 12 at 10 a.m. in Southside Park.
